ET-Braddock

A long exposure at night showing light trails from traffic and overlooking the U.S. Steel Edgar Thompson Plant in Braddock Pennsylvania.
Project Overview

The ET-Braddock 1H is a proposed natural gas well to be drilled on location at U.S. Steel’s Edgar Thomson Plant. This well will be drilled to a depth of 6,700 feet and will extend laterally 10,000 feet into the Marcellus Shale formation.

We are currently permitting for one well, but we are designing the site for expansion as other horizons are prospective for future development in both the Marcellus Shale and Utica Shale formations. While the pad itself will only be around 3 acres, we are planning for 13 acres of total use by the project. Equipment staging, water sourcing and storage, road access, and stormwater management features make up the entire 13 acres.

The abundant, affordable natural gas developed from this location will be used locally by U.S. Steel and will directly benefit families in the surrounding community and region through distribution by Peoples Natural Gas.

We are proud of this project and hope to begin operations in 2020. We’ll do our best to keep you updated on our progress through this website and the project newsletter. If you have additional questions, please use the form below, and we’ll get back with you as soon as possible.

Project Status

We are in the process of obtaining approvals and permits from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

DEP engineers, biologists, and geologists are reviewing our permits and plans for drilling and operating the well, erosion and sediment control, and utility line stream crossing. For greater detail, visit the Information Page at the DEP website.

We are also working with the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) regarding air quality regulations in Allegheny County.

Merrion Oil & Gas is dedicated to being a good neighbor. We will exceed regulatory requirements on this project to minimize environmental disruptions and safely produce clean and reliable energy.

Responsible Operations

Air Emissions

This project will not be a significant emissions source. We are installing state-of-the-art equipment designed to minimize air emissions.

Traffic

Sourcing water from the site’s existing water system will cut the project’s truck traffic in half.

We will route truck traffic on state roads, and coordinate equipment moves to occur during non-peak traffic periods.

Noise & Lighting

Our noise abatement strategy will keep noise below East Pittsburgh ordinances.

Temporary lighting during drilling and completion operations will be focused downward and inward.

Emergency Preparedness

We’ve carefully coordinated with local first responders and will provide regular, specialized training.

Project Manager

“My wife, children, and I visit family every year just 11 miles north of Braddock. We enjoy the area’s professional sports and beautiful landscape. We’ve been to hockey and baseball games. I’ve even seen the Steelers play. One of my favorite things about the area is the food. It’s unique and authentic. The kids love the zoo; we go every time we visit, it’s pretty cool. We always find something fun to do, but we go to see family more than anything.” – Ryan Davis

Ryan Davis is the Operations Manager at Merrion Oil & Gas. With strong family ties to the Pittsburgh area, he was the perfect choice to head up this project and ensure that our mission of providing safe and reliable energy for future generations is achieved in all aspects of the project.
